Facing Life's Uncertainty

What to do when facing uncertainty? How do we respond?

Of course, we all long to be secure and safe. Unfortunately, on this earth, life itself offers no guarantees about our safety and security. For those of us who believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible Word of God, we do have a word from Jesus in John 16:33. Truth is it is inevitable that we will face times of uncertainty, hardships, threats of violence, disturbances and troubles. As I am journaling this, we are in the middle of a pandemic--a worldwide crisis--Covid-19, a coronavirus, fears and anxiety are overwhelming many with uncertainty.

Since we are facing uncertainty now, the most sensible decision for us is to seek God and have a relationship with the Lord Jesus so that you will always have a place of security in Him. Then you too, like this psalmist can declare...

"You are my hiding place: You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance."

I know about being surrounded with songs of deliverance. On so many occasions during difficult times, the lyrics of songs that relieved me emotionally and lifted my spirit come to mind. They were songs that spoke to my fears and uncertainties. It's no wonder Paul said, "Let the message about Christ completely fill your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other. With thankful hearts, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. This practice causes us to refocus. We fix our thoughts on God's character and His Word. Ultimately, our praise brings deliverance!

I've noticed that almost in all the psalms, the presence of God makes the difference. Yes, the writers had questions, because they often felt forsaken in their troubles. Although they found no guarantee of safety in their closeness to God, it was their praise and confidence in His character that gave them the assurance that God would deliver them.

This is the same confidence we must have in this pandemic. So I vow to give God praise and glory. Also, like the psalmist encourages, I say: "Let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance."

To answer the questions at this beginning of this journal entry....

The uncertainty we face is about the outcome of the situation or circumstance we are in. It is the uncertainty of what the next day, week, month or year will bring. Uncertainty is always about our natural existence in this life. However, there is no excuse for any human being to be uncertain about his/her eternal destination after this earthly life!

I REPEAT: Since we are dealing with the invisible, inevitable now, the most sensible decision for us is to have a relationship with the Lord Jesus so that you will always have a place of security in Him. (Watch the video below) Then you too, like this psalmist can declare..."You are my hiding place: You will protect me from trouble."
